How to Wash Your Pillow Using A Washing Machine

How often do you wash your pillow? No matter what, one thing is certain, your pillows are very dirty! The truth is your pillows are dirtier than you can ever imagine. And this is because while you are always washing your pillow cases, bed sheets, and Duvet, you are not paying attention to your pillow, and you really need to clean your pillow twice a year.

If you are reading this, you are probably looking for how to wash your pillow at home or how to wash your pillow in washing machine.

How to Wash Your Pillow without Ruining It

Follow this guidelines to learn how to wash your pillow in washing machine.

Air Your Pillow Out

To wash your pillow at home, the first thing to do is to air it out every day to keep them clean.Give the pillows a daily fluffing to bring back their shape and eliminate dust. Then every month, you can hang them outdoors on a clothesline for two to four hours, preferably on a bright, breezy day, either warm or chilly. If this is not the best option as with some foam and latex pillows, all you should do is run them through the dryer on the no-heat cycle.

Wash Your Pillow Gently

If your pillow is not marked “dry clean only,” you should wash it about twice a year paying attention to care label instructions. Washing a pillow isn’t hard at all, although it can take a bit of time to get the pillow dry.

If your washing machine is large enough, you can wash two pillows at once to help you balance the load, allowing the water and detergent to flow more efficiently. You should keep in mind that the agitator on conventional top-loaders can be really tough on pillows, so it is advisable that you agitate on the gentle cycle only for some minutes (or the shortest setting that is possible, if you are not able to control the specific time)

Dry Your Pillow Thoroughly

Your pillow has to be completely dry, otherwise, you will have to deal with mildew. Do not use the auto-dry setting on your clothes dryer because the sensors will detect only the surface moisture and dry them. This will leave you a pillow that is still damp on the inside. Just dry the pillow for an hour on moderate heat. Adding a few dry towels will make this fast. Throw in two fresh tennis balls and they will prevent the feeling from clumping as they bounce around the drum.

If the weather is not hot, you can choose to hang your pillow on the clothesline and leave them to dry all the way through. Any drying technique you use is fine, but you still have to check for moisture inside your pillow. If it is completely dry, then you can make the bed.

It isn’t a difficult task to wash your pillow at home, all you need is to dedicate some time to do it. Taking care of your pillow will make it last longer and it also means good hygiene.
